Film Festival Acceptances & Rejections

eyes-still-1.jpeg

Film festivals are a great way to show your work to a broader audience and network with other filmmakers. During COVID-19, many festivals moved to a remote setup, which meant the important networking opportunities went out the window. Plus, I already have a complicated relationship with film festivals – it’s great when you are accepted, but what about when you’re rejected? And what do these decisions mean?

At this artist talkback as I discussed the festivals I’ve gotten to participate in, the many rejections I have received from film festivals, and how I have worked through them. I screened a wonderful film that was not accepted to the film festival I made it for – I assumed that meant it wasn’t worth watching. Let’s give some love to the short film The Eyes Have It and learn about why it is worth seeing, and how to press on despite discouragement in your art form. This event was held virtually. Registration is free and all were welcome.
